Introduction of Coatings(Composition)–CAMELSTEEL steel coil
The composition and function of paint
Various paints have four parts, namely (1) resin (2) pigment (3) solvent (4) additives. The solvent is the volatile part.
(1) Resin
Resin is the film-forming substance, which is the most important component and foundation in the coating, also known as the base material.
It is the main factor that determines the properties of the coating film.
The resin as the film-forming substance require to be quite stable during the storage period of the paint, without obvious physical and chemical changes: during film-forming,
under the specified conditions, it can quickly cure to form a film.
There are many types of resins, the common use resins in coil coatings are acrylic resins, epoxy resins, and of course polyester resins and polyurethanes.
Different resins have different physical and chemical properties, weather resistance, and corrosion resistance.
(2) Pigment
The pigment must use in conjunction with the resin. The main role in the coating is to color the coating film.
Different pigment ratios will affect the coating film hardness, gloss and corrosion resistance.
(3) Solvent
The solvent is an important part of the liquid paint, and it is a volatile component during the drying process of the paint.
Generally, the viscosity of the paint is also adjusted with a solvent. This solvent for adjusting the viscosity of the paint is called a thinner.
Solvents have a great influence on the manufacture, storage, coating, film formation and film quality of coatings.
(4) Auxiliaries
Additives small amounts of additives add to improve the performance of coatings.
The amount of additives in the coating is very small, but the effect is significant.
Some can improve the performance of the coating and the coating film, some can improve the drying time, and some can prevent the coating film from becoming ill.
However, there are many types of additives, including desiccants, curing agents, leveling agents, defoamers, matting agents, stabilizers, etc.
